Lukla Airport is located in Nepal, 130 kilometers from Kathmandu. Most daredevils wishing to reach the highest peak in the world Mount Everest (8848 m above sea level) must first face their fear by landing at Lukla airport. The airport itself is located at an altitude of 2,860 meters above sea level.

The airport itself is located at an altitude of 2,860 meters above sea level. There are unfavorable weather conditions – variable weather, poor visibility and strong winds make the airport in Lukla considered one of the most dangerous in the world. Especially when you take into account the fact that the runway is surrounded by high mountains! Sounds terrible? And that’s not all. The route of the plane taking off from here ends abruptly, with … a chasm 600 meters deep. The runway is only 460 meters long, so only small planes and helicopters can take off and land here.

The airport offers daily flights from and to Kathmandu. However, they take place only during the day and only under appropriate weather conditions. The airport is also called Tenzing-Hilary Airport, in honor of the first climbers to reach the peak of Mount Everest.
